[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Problem: vga, JRAM at-3, and 286 clone

bic@cgl.ucsf.edu (Bruce Cohen) (06/04/90)

I have been running a 286 clone, with a Talltree JRAM-3AT card (extra
2 megabytes of RAM), and a monochrome monitor since 1987. Having
a friend who is putting together a low end pc, and Windows 3.0 made
me decide the time was right to upgrade to a color VGA system.
I bought an Everex VGA monitor and a MaxLogic VGA card.

The first problem is the MaxLogic card failed with an with the JRAM.
Borrowing a Paradise VGA card confirmed that the monitor works fine,
though the JRAM had to be removed.

1. Do people have suggestions for a VGA card?
2. Can the JRAM live in a VGA world?
3. If not, what is a cheap way to use the 2 meg of drams on the
JRAM for extended memory and also replace the JRAM's serial port?

Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated.
