A friend has an old PC compatible, an NEC APC III. I think it's an 8086 with a 10MB disc. It was running MS-DOS 2.11, but now it isn't because something's got screwed and it hangs on reset after printing two lines identifying the operating system. I tried booting from floppy instead. However, the machine just momentarily accesses the floppy (perhaps just parking the heads) before switching to the hard disc. There seems no way of getting it to boot off the floppy. Any suggestions? No good suggesting reading the manual - he hasn't got one. Unless I can get it booted from floppy, I can't find out what's wrong with the hard disc. -- John Richards
