[comp.sys.ibm.pc] HP LaserJet

beekun@unssun.nevada.edu (R. I. Beekun) (06/05/90)

I just inherited a good old HP laserjet, and have connected it to my PS/2
model 70-a21.

When I turn the laser printer on (with my computer already on), I get a
message 22 on the printer status screen. When I turn the printer on
(with my computer off), the printer displays th00 message (as it should)d),
and does not display any error message.

Message 22 means that "the printer's receiving buffer has overflowed during
a busy state." This is what the HP Operator's Reference Manual states, and
it suggests that I should press the CONTINUE key.

Pressing the CONTINUE key does not do anything.

Questions:
(1) Why does the printer display the message 22 only when the computer is
turned on and not when the computer is off?
(2) Why does the printer display this message even before I print anything?

Should I chuck the old printer out?

Please e-mail to me since I have trouble keeping up with the volume of
messages on this net.

Thanks for any help.
