[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Is there a terminal emulator than can handle > 24 lines?

robertb@june.cs.washington.edu (Robert Bedichek) (06/03/90)

I currently use Procomm Plus, but would like to have a terminal
emulator that can take advantage of a large screen (16", 1024x768).

I called Datastorm (maker of Procomm Plus) and asked about this
and about some other stuff. The short answer is "no". Does anyone
know of a terminal emulator that can handle, say 50 lines?

The said (long answer):

 1. They had a wish list, a list of features that might be in a future
    release of pcplus.

 2. A large-screen emulator is on the wish list.

 3. They don't know when the next version of pcplus will come out or
what from the wish list it will have.

 4. They didn't know whether another comm package provided large terminal
    emulators.

I also suggested (tangential to the question above):

  1. They allow a much larger scroll buffer. Currently it is about 10
     pages.

  2. They have a extension language, like emacs' mock lisp, or
     Epsilon's eel.

  3. They speed up PageUp/PageDown when examining the scroll buffer.

They said "duly noted."

Thanks for any help that you can render.

Try TELIX V3.12, it can handle 80x43 (EGA) and 80x50 (VGA and some EGA).
I just tried it on a VGA and it worked fine.

Sure. I'm currently using Telix 3.12 in 50-line mode on a VGA. The VT-100
emulation is convenient when I have to use vi on a dial-up; just switch to
25-lines. Telix uses the 25th line for status, and the other 24 look just
like a VT100. 43-line mode is also available.

ZModem support is built-in, and there are provisions for adding third-party
transfer protocols.

The script language is practically C, which is a plus if you're into that
stuff and a minus if you just want to do a quick logon script.

Telix is Shareware, and widely circulated. I'll guess that SIMTEL has it...
