[comp.sys.ibm.pc] UNIX commands

I am looking for MS-DOS implementations of some UNIX commands.
grep and find are the two most important ones.
I see that SIMTEL20 has a large selection of "find like" programs
but few "grep" programs (DOS find with wild card parameters would do).
Does anyone have any recommendations of good implementations ?

This might seem obvious, but both The MKS Toolkit and Polytron's
PolyShell are fairly complete work-alikes of UNIX shells including
most of the common utilities. Check out any "Programmer's _______"
type catalog for prices. There are also some C source collections
often called UTOOLS, UXTOOLS, etc. on BBS'es containing source for
about 20 of the most common UNIX utilities.

I found that Borland's Turbo.* programs come with a file called GREP.COM.
I haven't tried this program yet nor have I found any documentation about it.
(I havn't looked too hard, though.)

If you use any of their compilers or know someone who does, you may want to
try it.

I have been using MKS Toolkit for some time now and I am very satisfied
with it. It includes about 90+ UNIX-like commands ranging from awk.exe
to yacc.exe. If you're just looking for grep and find you might want to
look at something cheaper (MKS Toolkit approx. $150).

An inexpensive source of UNIX type commands is the C/Utilities Toolchest
from Mix Software. In addition to the normal commands, a Bourne-type
shell is included. The price is about $20. Source code is available
for $10 for each of the three classes (text utilities, file utilites, the
shell).

The commands seem pretty solid, but I had trouble with the system hanging
with the df command. Other than trivial scripts, I have not used the
shell. For $20 it is definitely a good deal. Now if it only included
vi. :-)

Disclaimer: My company bought this software - my only connection with
Mix Software.
