most musicians have a tendency to listen to recordings with less enthusiasm than non-musicians, but most of the time it seems to be a result of the de-sensitization process rather than the addictive rush from live performance. Along with the skills necessary to produce any kind of enjoyable performance a musician develops an automatic analysis skill that somewhat transcends (and my wife says "destroys") the initial experiences and euphoria of encountering simple progressions, and eventually more complex progressions. It does not dilute, however, the emotional and neurological blast of hearing something really exciting. Jay Elkins
