[net.music] Oscar's Paranthetical Remark

elkins@houxm.UUCP (J.ELKINS) (05/15/84)

most musicians have a tendency to listen to recordings
with less enthusiasm than non-musicians, but most of
the time it seems to be a result of the
de-sensitization process rather than the addictive
rush from live performance. Along with the skills
necessary to produce any kind of enjoyable performance
a musician develops an automatic analysis skill that
somewhat transcends (and my wife says "destroys") the
initial experiences and euphoria of encountering
simple progressions, and eventually more complex
progressions. It does not dilute, however, the
emotional and neurological blast of hearing
something really exciting.
