I am trying to hook up a terminal to the serial port on a PC/AT 386 clone (a Samsung, to be exact, but I have failed on others, too). The problem is that when I try to write a character to the port, I get back a "write fault/timeout". I have tried every combination of null modem/straight through, 3-pin/5-pin/7-pin, full/half duplex, etc. I know the problem is not my end, since I even failed on a box that can talk to a PROM burner and an ICE on COM1. When I plug a terminal into the same port, I get the error. HELP! Who could believe that such a simple operation on a simple box could be so difficult. As expected, there is no documentation to help me, and I am at wits end. BTW, in case you are wondering, we are not using DOS, but a special ROM-based application that needs to speak to a terminal as a console device. The terminal is only needed for output; no keyboard input is required. Please E-MAIL, as I do not read this group. Andrew L.
