Regarding a kid getting into NORAD, as in War Games: I'm probably crazy to talk about this on a net connected to ARPA, but it's late and my judgment is gone - the FBI can call me at (503)-627-4052. The military phone system runs on separate "wires", but shares much of the same equipment (ATT long lines, etc.) as the normal phone system. I've been told that in the late sixties there were places where a skilled blue-boxer could "dial" into the military network; I was also told of a dedicated hacker who actually did make it into one of the computers at Cheyenne mountain. I assume that the paths are closed by now - the equipment is smarter, and the leaks are plugged. I hope so. At least, you can't reach it by autodialing Sunnyvale. Perhaps this is just another apocryphal story, but it's only second hand... -- Keith Lofstrom uucp: {ucbvax,decvax,chico,pur-ee,cbosg,ihnss}!teklabs!tekcad!keithl CSnet: keithl@tek ARPAnet:keithl.tek@rand-relay

It was my impression that the way he got into the military's phone system was through a phone co. screw-up.
