[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Genius mouse info wanted

leendert@cwi.nl (Leendert van Doorn) (07/02/90)

Perhaps this is a very often asked question, but since I don't read this
news group (lack of time) don't hold it to much against me.

I'm looking for the technical data on my Genius mouse (GM-6). I want to
write a driver, but I'm missing all the technical details of the mouse
(why aren't they in the manual ? :-( :-( ).

Hacking around I found that the mouse operates at 1200 Bd (yep, it is a
serial mouse) and returns responses of five bytes each. The first byte
contains some status information and also specifies what button is pressed.
The next four bytes present some vertical and horizontal motion indicators.
The format of these bytes is somewhat weird: hor1 ver1 hor2 ver2. My question
is: what does this sequence represent ? and how should I interpreted it ?
How does this convert to relative left/right/up or down motions ?

Please respond through e-mail. I'll summarize if appropriate.

	Thanks, Leendert
