If anyone could, please send me a uuencoded arced copy of 4DOS or
let me know where I could get a copy. It sounds interesting.

I recently downloaded 4dos ver 3.01a and tried playing around with for
a while. I quickly found that when I load it as the primary shell (ie from
config.sys) that my pc-cache.com program refuses to load its cache file in
extended memory. It claims there is none. If I inhibit swapping in 4dos
or force it to swap to disk then pc-cache works but then it is impossible to
get 4dos to start swapping to extended (XMS) mem.
Has anybody else found this problem with pctools pc-cache and 4dos?

please reply.

Sounds like you don't have enough EXTEnded memory. What kind of system are
you running on? Are you using a memory manager like HIMEM.SYS to map
EXTEnded memory? I have no problems on a 386 using 4DOS, QEMM and PC-CACHE
in either EXTEnded or EXPAnded memory.

I have a 20Mhz 286 system (c&t neat chipset), 3Mbyte of EXTended Ram,
3Mbyte of EXPanded ram and QEXT.sys as the memory manager with QRAM
doing tricks with the high ram. PC-CACHE will use EXPanded ram which is
fine but cannot find any EXTended memory.

Are you sure QEXT isn't converting all your extended memory to expanded?
What does the 4DOS MEMORY command say about extended/expanded memory? Have
you run MANIFEST to verify that there is some extended memory left?
