I'm searching for a PC accounting package to run over a group of (4) networked PC's (286 machines). The package has to provide several things. - Support 40 departments. Pretty standard, but there's one trick. There is really only 1 cash account for all of the departments, so the package must treat them separately in most cases, but be able to deal with, or at least report on, thecombined account. We are willing to do programming to do this, if necessary. The programmable systems are quite expensive, however. - Provide some security. Each deparment can only see its own records, and only read-only. The data is entered by a bookkeeper who has full access. - Operate over a network. We haven't chosen it yet, but I assume that it will be Novell. It doesn't matter as long as it works. The accounting needed is pretty standard. A/R, G/L, A/P, others... The only trick is the cash account. I'd appreciate any help which people could give in in finding such a package (as well as a network) or at least pointing me in a direction to do research. Customizing the program is not a problem, if its customizable. It seems too simple to have to spend the $800 per module (like A/R, ...) that I've been quoted.Thanks for any help.
