[comp.sys.ibm.pc] 386max question

hlison@bbn.com (Herb Lison) (07/10/90)

I've got a Compaq 386/25 Deskpro with 16Mb memory and a VGA monitor.
When I install 386max with the EMS=0 switch I only get an additional
88k back in high memory. Other people I talk with get 128kb. In
addition, the largest segment is only 48 Kb, so I can't load my
FTP ethernet software. Anybody have any ideas how I could reclaim
more memory?

Thanks,

Herb Lison

I depends on your video card, and whatever other bios extensions you
have based on your hardware. Since these occupy the same area as where
386max is trying to put extra memory, you lose out on memory. I only
get 96K of high memory. Also, some boards use 64KB roms, even though
they only use part of them. I suggest ugrading to the new version of
386max (it should be free for 5.0)
