The HP LaserJet III has adjustable dot pitch that it takes advantage of with PCL5. Does the HP Adobe cartridge also take advantage of this feature? Put another way, does the HP LaserJet III's PostScript output differ from (is it better than) say a Apple LaserWriter or a TI MicroLaser? -- Craig Werner (future MD/PhD, 5.5 years down, 2.5 to go) werner@aecom.YU.EDU -- Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1935-14E Eastchester Rd., Bronx NY 10461, 212-931-2517) "Man posesses limited intelligence, but alas, unlimited stupidity."

According to HP's marketing poop the III does its anti-aliasing as a post-process of whatever image has been rendered, and is supposed to work with PostScript. -- Richard Foulk richard@pegasus.com

It looks a lot sharper, even under a lupe. The "Resolution Enhancement" is actually done using the video signal before it's sent to the marking engine, not in the "rasterizer". This means that you will also see enhanced bitmap output. There is a custom chip that processes every 24 lines of the raster and does it's magic. I was very skeptical about it at first, but in 95% of my output, the end result is excellent. I've been using a LJIII w/Adobe PS Cart for about two months, I just added the LocalTalk option. At a little under $3000 for the whole mess, I'm very happy with it. -- Neal E.
