I was asked to investigate a cost-effective solution to connecting an IBM PC to an IBM 4381. Two possibilities are being discussed. 1. Establishing a modem connection 2. Using a direct line to the 4381 Possibility 1 ------------- I was told that the 4381 has the necessary hardware to allow async modem connections. However, the hardware has yet to be installed and configured. If the hardware were in place what would I need to effect a modem connection that would provide 3270 emulation on the PC? Someone suggested using an EiconCard/PC from Eicon Technology, but I do not know anything about it. Possibility 2 ------------- In the near future a direct line to the 4381 will be installed in one of our offices. I was told that along with the line we will be receiving a 3270 terminal. However, my director would like to use a PC in lieu of this terminal. Once the line is installed what do we need to do to enable a PC connection? Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions/comments/etc. regarding this issue would be most appreciated. Please e-mail to me personally. I will post a summary.
