[net.music] The end of civilization as we knew it...

sherouse@unc.UUCP (George W. Sherouse) (05/15/84)

.
TraLaLaLa... UNC is back on the air. Missed you guys.

Anyway, while we were in solitary, the last link with a glorious
past went the way of the 5 cent cigar. Robert (ex-superhero) Fripp
and his buddies have a video in regular rotation on MTV. Bill
(sure-I'll-play-in-your-band) Bruford is featured banging on sundry
hexagons and generally looking silly. Peter Gabriel's ex-band also
gets into the swim. I remember when Bill couldn't keep a beat.
It's the end, I tell you.

------

Hot tips:

AVOID The Smiths - retreads of the Only Ones' miserable sound

GIVE-A-LISTEN to Prefab Sprout - good despite the name

Good tunes to you,

Yes, but take heart: There was a bit of rumour that Fripp
had gone back into the studio and laid some guitar work
over all those Frippertronics (I feel like personally
apologizing to Terry Riley everytime I use that word). He
should have done that in the first place. In a live context,
those "small, mobile, and intelligent" performances were
some of the most exhilirating things I have ever heard.

If you still miss Bill 'cymbals' Bruford, check out his
album of duets with Patrick Moraz on acoustic piano.

THank heavens our Television went blooey about the
time Tom Verlaine's Television did.
