I seem to have this very strange problem with my Microsoft Mouse.
Here is the story: I have a system with a Microsoft Mouse. My mouse never
gave me any trouble before (for about a full year). Now, I decide I want to
upgrade my system. So I bought a MIDI card and installed it, and I bought a
3 1/2 inch disk drive and installed it. And lo and behold, my mouse
mysteriously stops working.
So the first thing I thought of was an interrupt
conflict, but it still didn't work after I had removed everything I just
installed, and I even took out my sound card whice was in there when the mouse
still worked. And still, not a stir from my mouse.
So now I think to myself, maybe it's a software problem. But when I boot up
with just DOS (4.01) it still doesn't work. So now, I think that the mouse
itself broke. (by the way, it's a serial mouse) But it works when I plug
it into another PC's serial port. So now, I think that I have a bad serial
port. But my modem works through both COM1 and COM2.
Well, I just about ran out of ideas, so I called Microsoft. They told me that
I had a bad driver and the version I had (6.24) was known for dying (all of
a sudden). They are in the process of sending me an upgrade. But I tried a
friend's driver (version 7.04) and this time it couldn't even find my mouse
at all.
Has anyone ever had such a problem before, with thier mouse or mouse driver?
Does ANYONE have ANY ideas at all??? Anything at all. I really don't know
what to try next. I'm pretty much ready to give up and go buy a BUS mouse.
Any suggestions are welcome. Please leave a response or send E-mail.
Thank you very much
Rich
