Just wanted to thank all the people who've sent e-mail in case I didn't. I've fixed the st225 drive. The strange noises were because I had screwed it in to tightly to the frame. After a bunch of attempts with the dos format command, it was able to re-format the drive with a loss of about 600k to bad sectors. The moral to this story (after don't bang your hard disk drive into objects and always park the heads) is to back up the data lots and have much better hard disk tools.
