[comp.sys.ibm.pc] What's the pros and cons of fixed freq vs multisync monitors?

root@shawn.uucp (0000-Admin(0000)) (10/31/90)

Generally, I see multisync monitors advertised lately. The reasons I hear
for using a multisync monitor is that it will work with many graphics cards
at many resolutions. Presumably, on a fixed frequency monitor, the frequencies
are simply set to a fixed value, and you use it with one graphics device. What
is really wrong with that? If I buy graphics card XYZ, then what is wrong with
getting a monitor that is less expensive and fixed frequency, and then setting
it to that frequency?

Is there some other issues that make fixed frequency monitors undesirable? Or
are multisync monitors just easier to set up?

What's the REAL difference between using a fixed or a multisync?

Thanks in advance!
