[net.movies] Contest

tgd@floyd.UUCP (Tom Dennehy) (08/04/83)

Flames off - Fun time now:

The current issue of Film Comment has its second
Movie Quiz, which provides a fresh topic for non-flaming
exchange while waiting for Joe Bob to return. It's too late
to get an official entry together and try to win the brass
ring ( a year's subscription to the mag, to be beamed over
the net as soon FC starts running Unix(TM) ), but let's give
it a shot.
The trick is to compile (or assemble) a list of films
with numbers in the title. The number can't be at the beg-
inning of the title (1,000,000 Years B.C. is out) or immediately
preceeded by an artice at the beginning (The Two of Us doesn't
cut it either). No sequels, please. Entries by mail or post 'em
if your machine can stand the traffic.
	To start:
		QB VII
		Return of the Secaucus 7
		The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3
		Butterfield 8
Around the World in 80 Days
		Golddigers of 1935
		Any other Busby Berkeley film
		of that ilk (e.g. [] of 19[])

			Happy hunting,

About the Contest:

Our friendly neighborhood system guru in floydville
has politely requested that all contest suggestions be mailed
rather than posted. Given the early returns, we may have a
netland winner - someone who has been compiling this list for
years, evidently waiting for a prize to be given for it!!
The list (edited for contest rules and still containing some
questionable calls) is pert near 100 flicks.

			Counting on your cooperation,

			   Tom Dennehy {...floyd!tgd}

How about Rocky II, Rocky III, the Halloweens, the Jawses, etc.

Sorry about that. I didn't read the rules correctly.

Anyway, how about 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'?

The Magnificent Seven
Seven brides for seven brothers

(the question was what films contain a number in their title)

tgd@floyd.UUCP (Tom Dennehy) (08/12/83)

In the interest of 'n' keys everywhere, I'll mail
a copy of the net entry in Film Comment's second
quiz to those who are interested, rather than posting
it (it's longer than my music reviews, if such a
thing is possible). Thanks to all contributors.
Special thanks to ariel!tas.
