Well, 6 of the Friends of Entropy went to see Krull yesterday. The general consensus was that the $2.25 we spent (each) was too much. This is a $1.50 movie (we rate movies based on how much we'd have willingly paid to see the movie -- so far, $8 is the highest, and demanding our money back at $.25 is the lowest). Good points: The scenery was beautiful. I believe most of the movie's outdoor scenes were shot in the Italian Alps. Breathtaking. We want to emigrate to Krull (once the Beast is defeated.) The princess was cute. I'd go through a major battle for her, but I doubt I'd go to the effort Corwin did. He's cute too, but not my type. In fact, everyone was too cute for their roles. Bad points: Pretentious soundtrack. Pretentious plot. Wooden acting. Poor production (pacing was awful) -- every time you began to get a little worked up about something, the scene would change and put you back to sleep. No character development. No rationale for the actions of the characters. No blood, no naked women, no jumps into hyperspace. One or two good monsters, but that isn't enough. In general: If you can see it for a buck, go ahead. We would not recommend taking a date and spending $8 unless you're going to sit in the back and fool around -- otherwise you'll walk out feeling a bit cheated. This is one of the few movies where the novelization of the screenplay by Alan Dean Foster was better than the movie. If you locate the princess, send her to me -- Corwin smiles at the wrong things and is probably slightly retarded. Beware of bladed Frisbees and transparent spiders the size of house trailers. And wear clean underwear when you go out. -- The soapbox of Gene Spafford CSNet: Spaf @ GATech ARPA: Spaf.GATech @ UDel-Relay uucp: ...!{sb1,allegra,ut-ngp}!gatech!spaf ...!duke!mcnc!msdc!gatech!spaf
