Commercial packages for disk defragmentation for that purpose only are expensive. For $65 you have your choice of either Norton Utilities or PCTools. Both have disk optimizier programs plus tons of other things to make your PC run better. In the shareware field you might want to bread the documentation carefully concerning the ability of the program to recognize hidden and fixed files, especially those from copy protected software. If these files are moved, your software is dead. Both Norton and PC Tools handle this well so not to worry there.

The best disk defragger available on the market is Optune from Gazelle Software. This package is a defragger only, and I think it runs about $30. I have used all three defraggers, and Optune is 100% faster and better than the other two. Then again, with the other two you get a ton of other utilities. Tough call. Depends on how much you want to spend and how much you really need. _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | | Drew Rudman | 9600 HST Call 60 megs | | drewr@hpiosa.corp.hp.com or | THE CHARGE | | drudman@hpcc01.corp.hp.com | IBM/Apple 24 hrs/day | | Axe Slinger (#1)@The Charge | (415) 321-4713 - Menlo Park, CA | |______________________________|______________________________________________|
