I recently inherited a real time clock board for my PC compatiable computer. The trouble is I don't have the software programs to read and write the time from/to the board. The hardware on the board is pretty simple, with just some address decoding circuitry, PIA, clock chip, and a battery. I have identified the clock chip as a M5832 real time clock. The trouble is I know nothing more than this. I would really appreciate it if someone would be so kind as to mail me the specs. on how to read and write the time for this chip. I have not been able to find any write up on it in the hardware manuals I have access to. I think I can determine the address that the board responds to by following the traces through the decoding circuitry. If you know of some common addresses used by clock cards I would also like to know about it. I would really like to dispense with entering in the time and date each time I boot my machine, but it looks like I've got a little work ahead of me. (Actually my brain can hardly handle the strain of converting to military style time. :-) ) Thanks for any help you can give me. Craig Johnston johnston@milton.u.washington.edu PS. I would have given more info on the type and make of clock board in hopes that someone had the same one, but there is nothing written on the board except "Made in China", and "CLOCK 01".
