#N:pur-ee:7000030:000:576 pur-ee!davy Mar 15 11:15:00 1983 There's a company here at Purdue this week which sells movie posters. These are the real posters, not copies. They also sell the "lobby cards" (the photos you see in the lobby). Apparently, they can order just about anything. Most of the recent posters (last 5 years) are $16-18 apiece, lobby cards are $25-30 for a set of 8. If anyone is interested, mail me and I will send you their name and address. --Dave Curry {decvax, ucbvax, ihnss, inuxc}!pur-ee!davy P.S. - For those of you who care, a "Casablanca" poster recently sold at an auction for $2500.00.

Does anyone know a good source for movie posters? I have this deep-rooted desire for a certain poster -- the big (4' x 6') poster of the starchild from "2001" which proclaims "the ultimate trip." Somehow I doubt that I'll ever obtain one... Any leads on movie posters in general or particularly the one for "2001" would be appreciated. Thanks in advance... Mark Paulin ...tektronix!tekmdp!markp

there are many places from which you can order not only posters and lobby cards, etc. but also scripts for movie and television shows. look for ads in the various movie magazines, like AMERICAN FILM or THE MOVIES. if anyone would like specific addresses of these places, send your request to me VIA MAIL. i will prepare a list of these places to be sent back to you.

I collected movie posters, lobby cards, stills, etc. for many years. Unfortunately, I ended up selling much of my collection to pay for my college tuition. Prices are now much higher than they were when I was in the market. I bought the one-sheet poster from "Taxi Driver" for $8.00 back in 1976. I'm sure that's gone up quite a bit. I bought many posters through the mail, but I also went to used book stores, nostalgia shops, movie memorabilia shops, movie and comic book conventions, etc. As beesvax!katz pointed out, the posters from re-issues of films are usually not very interesting. Also, even if you love a particular film, you might not love the posters that were created to advertise that film. That is why it is a good idea to actually see the poster or at least get a good description of the poster before buying. Of course, you should protect your investment by getting it framed immediately. -Sarah

Several years ago I was in Greenwich Village and I wandered into this shop that dealt exclusively in movie memorabilia. I think the name of the place was "The Batcave". You might try NY directory assistance to get the phone number. Might be worth a try. Jr. -mgweed
