[net.movies] Movie: Risky Business

I saw the ads on TV and thought it was another "summer teen" film. But
then I heard that Siskel and Ebert gave it good reviews, so I thought
I'd check it out.

I agree with Ebert that it's like The Graduate. It's about a young man
soon to graduate from high school who's worried about his future. His
friends are getting accepted to big Universities, but he didn't do too
well on the SAT, so hopes his grades and membership in a Junior
Achievement club will help him. His parents are wealthy (as are the
parents of his friends) so there's alot of pressure to go to a major
college. His father gets him a private meeting with an admissions
advisor from Princeton, but neither of his parents are truly concerned
with how he feels. As if worrying about college isn't enough, friends
are kidding him about his lack of sexual experience.

Since his parents have left for a week, it's time for him to take some
chances and "profit from the resulting opportunites," as a friend tells
him. So he does take chances, though he's worried about what such
chances will do to his future. This is where the fun starts. And it's
fresh humor. It's not juvenile though sometimes it's like a fantasy.
You're not sure what's going to happen next, but just when you think the
movie is ending there are two nice twists that leave you with a very
satisfying ending.

It's directed by the author, and I look forward to seeing more of his
films. I recommend it, and think (and hope) it will be very popular.
Take a chance and check it out.

Another vote for Risky Business -- I saw it last night and
it was a lot of fun.... Pure teenage fantasy, but very well done.....
