[comp.sys.ibm.pc] HP vectra info needed

gaf@nmt.edu (Steve Anderson) (06/01/91)

I am running an old HP Vectra (their original AT clone). I am trying
to upgrade the memory from it's base 640k to ???k. So far the
best/cheapest/easiest idea I have gotten is to replace the 128k chips
on the main board with a higher memory chip. Unfortunately, I don't
know if my machine is capable of managing the extra memory this way.
Does anyone know if this machine is capable of this upgrade? (or, where can
I find out?)

-Thanks

Reckon your only option is gonna be a ram board. You certainly can't just changethe chips on the board. There are a number of people who supply these boards.

If you only want DOS then you need expanded memory (some DOS apps recognise thisstuff). Extended is not much use in DOS. If you wanna run windows you need
to determine the processor type. If its 8086 stick with expanded memory. If
it's a 286 go for extended.

If you're using DOS extra memory can only be useful to those apps that recognise it.
