[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Texas Instruments PC-Compatible

lains@world.std.com (Layne L Ainsworth) (06/12/91)

I have this old (but still working until recently) TI-PPC (portable
professional computer). It won't boot up and the manual doesn't list the
error. TI doesn't make the computer (or any PC-compatibles) anymore,
so service is not very available. TI has a manual set (about $200 for
the pair) that I could buy, but I don't want to if it's a really easy
fix.

These are the symptoms:

Power up and:

1) All three LEDs on mother board go on. (red, yellow, green)
2) Immediately, the green light goes off.
3) About .5 seconds later, yellow light goes off, and green turns on.
4) About 1 second after that, green light goes off, and red stays on forever

The screen now says:

** system error ** 0004

Why am I telling you this? If any of you has ever worked on one of these
things, I would appreciate the answer to either "What does that mean?" or
"Who would know what that means?", preferably in the Boston area, but I'm
not too picky.

Thanks a lot.

-Layne
