When I try to move it, it jumps across the screen - many times off the screen. I have a Packard Bell 286 system (IBM/AT compatible) using MS/DOS 3.3, with 40 MB hard disk, both floppies, and a three button "optical" mouse with an additional 3-position button, on the side of the mouse, to vary its sensitivity. I am using the Microsoft Mouse Driver. The mouse worked perfectly prior to my using a routine named "MOUSE CONTROL (MOUSECTL)" which is part of a package called "DOS POWER TOOLS - Techniques, Tricks, & Utilities - 2nd Edition from PC Magazine (put together by Paul Samelson). The write-up states that there are "8" parameters that can be set which change the sensitivity of the mouse. There are 8 default values but it does not say what mouse these 8 work for. It also does not say what these parameters actually do. Each one of the 8 parameters responds to all values between 0 and 32767 but no assistance is provided in the write-up as to what any of these values mean or what values should be used to approach the desired sensitivity. The MOUSECTL write-up says that the range values represent the number of mickeys at 1/200th-inch increments. My Packard Bell mouse has a high 250 DPI resolution. After I modified the mouse using MOUSECTL, I found that whenever I tried to use my SMALLTALK package, the mouse was almost unusable. There is no further assistance provided by the MOUSECTL write-up to help anyone return the mouse to normal. I have tried many sets of 8 parameters to try to get the mouse to return to some useful condition but with no success. I would appreciate any help since the mouse is currently almost un-usable.
