Hello: I run a 386sx with 4 megs of RAM. My operating systems are DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.0 I am trying to free as much conventional memory as I can by moving drivers etc. in to upper memory. The "mem /c |more" command revealed the following. Conventional memory: msdos setver.exe himem.sys emm386.exe command.com Total conventional memory free 629216 (614.5 K) Upper memory: system ansi.sys smartdrv.sys mouse.sys fastopen.exe Total upper memory free 59408 (58.0 K) I have heard of people getting upto 630 K of conventional memory free after loading DOS 5.0 My specific questions are: 1) Can I move setver.exe into upper memory. If the answer is yes, then can I move it's position in my config.sys file such that it is after the lines: device=c:\dos\himem.sys AND device=c:\dos\emm386.exe noems 2)Can I move command.com into upper memory? How should I do this? If you have specifically done one of the above, I would appreciate your comments. I do not want any replies asking me to buy a memory manager. Thank you, Ashok -- Ashok Aiyar axa12@po.cwru.edu aiyar@cwbio.bioc.cwru.edu

Regarding my previous post; I put setver.exe into upper memory, and everything seems fine. I now have 615K conventional memory free. I would still be interested in knowing if I can put command.com into upper memory. Ashok -- Ashok Aiyar axa12@po.cwru.edu aiyar@cwbio.bioc.cwru.edu
