I've been experiencing the following error on my Unix PC when compiling. It typically happens when I try to compile the first module of code specified by my makefile. The command and error message are: cc -c -g filename.c Assembler: /tmp/mctmAAAa025743 aline 1 : unable to open temporary (data) file. *** Error code 1. The (data) field will sometimes say (data 2) or (data 3). There is currently 26% of memory free on the 20 Megabyte hard disk. It typically happens when I'm running my program on one terminal and trying to compile another program on the other terminal. My solution up to now is to terminate all running programs, and try again. Sometimes I need to log off the system, and then log on again. Does anyone know why I'm getting the error, and what I can do to prevent such errors from occurring again? John Dempsey Unisys Corporation john@cam.unisys.com

I have seen this happen on other SRV systems when you run out of
space in the inode table. Since I don't see it on my system,
which is heavily used at times, there may be something dependent
on memory size or version. IT might even be swap space size.
Hope this helps.
