[comp.sys.att] Soliciting suggestions for extended/expanded

simnet@ssc-vax.UUCP (Mark R Poulson) (05/12/87)

I currently have 1 Megabyte of RAM in my ATT 6300 Plus's (on the motherboard).

1) The dip switches on the board are set to indicate only 640KB though, because
the systems always crash when AutoCAD is called with 1 Meg enabled.
Any suggestions?

2) I want to expand the RAM by an additional 1.5 Mbytes. Can anyone recommend
an appropriate card (such as the Intel PS/AT)?

P.S. Yesterday, I replaced an 8086 with a V30 in an AT&T 6300. It seems to
be working great. I know that Norton Utilities System Information (SI)
command can't be used as a serious benchmark, but it indicates the performance
ratio relative to an 8088-based IBM PC improved from 1.9 to 4.2. The
system bottleneck now is obviously the hard disk. I assume the 10 Mbyte
disk has an average access time of 80 milliseconds. Can anyone verify or
correct this assumption?
