[comp.sys.att] mail user agents for UNIXpc

dave@arnold.UUCP (Dave Arnold) (07/21/87)

I am running version 3.5 on my 7300. I am stuck with System V mail and
rmail. Yukk!!! I am considering something better. How about mailx?
How about PMX term? Could somebody give me a recommendation? I know
about ELM, I have scanned the user's guide. ELM looks to fat for my purposes,
will cost me alot to dowload, and looks like a vi type interface.
What are my other alternatives?

My mail user agent wish list:

1.	emacs style screen oriented user interface.
2.	Replying to messages and including the original message.
3.	Folders.
4.	Directory of messages by subject.
5.	search folder by subject or content.
6.	expire, etc.

Anybody ever use DEC's VMS allin1? Or DECmail? That's something like
what I want.

How does the code look for ELM? Is it clean? What's going on in the ELM
newsgroup?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

ELM is now undergoing a beta test for the next release. It works fine
on SYS 5 systems, but there were some major problems with BSD systems.

It is a large system -- the sources take up about 1Megabyte. If you are
interested, wait until the beta testing is complete before you get it.
