just some st506 cables and your favorite st506 winchester drive. The cables can be run from the system board out the back of the side service area and into the XM. The drive will have to have XM mounting plates made for it. Detach the tape backup and look at the mounting plate. You will need a nibbler tool to copy it. There is some software to change if the expansion drive is not identical to an ATT drive. You will need a copy of the "devtools" diskette to format the drive. I done this many times. I will be happy to help.

What is this devtools disk, how much does it cost, and where can I get it? Remember, this disk has allready been used on a ATT 3b2, so it may not need formating. Does it? Thanks. --Jon Eckhardt jte@psuvax1.BITNET jte@psuvax1.psu.edu.ARPA --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UUCP = <allegra,ihnp4,atcgva,burdvax,purdue>!psuvax1!jte

The devtools diskette is a special hardware diskette used by att service agents. you should be able to get it for free. Any att 3B var will also have it. You can fix sanity track errors, format and repair hard disks and other less important things.

Posting-Front-End: GNU Emacs 18.41.4 of Mon Mar 23 1987 on bu-cs (berkeley-unix) Does anyone know if the 160MB CDC (FSD) drives that came on the 3B5 can be used with a 3b2/300? I believe they were larks or wrens or something (one was the removeable 40Mb, sure, that one too?) Put another way, are those st506? -Barry Shein, Boston University
