Does anyone have a program that will switch VOICE 1: IDLE to DATA 1 for a single-line configuration system. I would like to use the telephone line for voice/data. At certain times (late night) automatically using the cron facility. The Phone manager also has a cutesy new icon in the shape of a telephone which sits at the top of the screen. Selecting this (with a double click) pops up a window that has a touch-tone phone pad in it and you dial the phone by hitting numbers on this pad... Also ... something in 3.51 (either the communications patch, or just a better driver) makes the built-in modem able to talk to a class of modems it previously hadn't been able to talk to. Our Multi-Tech 2400 baud modems we have on campus. The handshaking tones weren't done properly and it wouldn't handshake right. Now it does. Yay! Another new thing is that popping up 12 windows now works. (I've been told that in 3.5 it doesn't work). Warning ... the machine gets really really really slow with 12 windows running. I'm not sure ... I'll tell you after I upgrade to 4 megs if it's still slow. -- ----- David Herron, Local E-Mail Hack, david@ms.uky.edu, david@ms.uky.csnet ----- {uunet, cbosgd}!ukma!david, david@UKMA.BITNET ----- ----- Je parle francais comme une vache espagnole.

OK. I've been reading about the joys of V3.51. Were we supposed to get an upgrade notice in the mail or should we give old operator 902 another call? It this upgrade available to the real world (non-AT&T) and if so, at what cost? The skinny is full price! I was so upset that I havent thought about it untill I read this article. I have been experiencing the midnight crash due to the Combo board and UUCP and 3.5.1 is the fix for this, but even though I have had LOTS of calls into the Hotline, I still have to pay FULL price for the "Maintenance Upgrade". -- :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: {mhuxu,u1100a}-----\ Mark Hilliard seismo!rochester!kodak!gizzmo!mark N2HHR {ethos,fthood}-----/

I haven't had much luck getting through... she's usually not at her desk :-< Part #105360309 As far as the HOTLINE says, UNIX PC operating system 3.51 fixes some of the bad bugs found in the communication. (ie. the Phone Manager) But on the other hand they do not know of any fix to the phone manager to allow toggling of the LINE SELECT (VOICE/DATA) without touching the F3 button in the phone manager. Although they did add some cute enhancements?! There are also enhancements/bug fixes to the compiler. Which means another expense to developers!! Unfortunately, as far as I know, they are not giving any promotional deals, like "Send the 1st diskette of the Foundation Set, and 1st diskette of the Development Set" and $95.00 for the package. The HOTLINE indicates there is NO PROMO, and the cost is $275.00 for Foundation Set + $xxx.00 for the Development Set? This is crazy since people like us (AT&T VARS) just finished upgrading all our customers UNIX PC's from 3.0 -> 3.5... and now here's 3.51! I wouldn't mind the usual $95.00 + tax for the OS and Development Set to cover cost of shipping and handling. Oh well... AT&T strikes again!! Can anyone please tell me how to get a PC7300 to dial PULSE instead of TONE. (my local exchange doesnt take tone). I have tried various things off the Administration and Hardware Management menus, but I still hear tweedle-deedle-beep-boop-boop out the speaker instead of rickety-tickity-tickety-click-click-click. You have to unset DTMF and set PULSE in the c_lineparam in the struct updata, then do the ioctl( fd, PIOCSETP, &lineparam). I have no idea how to persuade the phone manager to do this though, although I'd guess that if you edit /etc/.lineone (or .linetwo as appropriate) and change the line which says TT1=YES to TT1=NO then kill -17 the phone manager, something might break. -- Jonathan Clark [NAC,attmail]!mtune!jhc An Englishman never enjoys himself except for some noble purpose.

If you log in as install, and go into "Administration", then "Hardware Setup", then "Telephone Setup", you will get a fabulous UA menu that asks you if your phone is "Touch Tone" or not. If you change this to "No" the machine will dail pulse. This option only shows up in the office of install along with several other things you don't see. You can get these for yourself by linking "/u/install/Administration" and "/u/install/Software" to your $HOME directory. -- Ken Tobias "Damn Turtles!!..." marge!ken@nrcvax -or- ken@dhw68k.CTS.COM
