There has been some discussion in these groups recently about 6300 incompatibility. While I generally agree that the 6300 is a great and compatible machine, I've just come across a program that won't. I'm trying to run IBM's 3270 Emulation Program ver 3.0. What happens is I get the opening annoying logo screen and a prompt to hit return. After hitting the return key I get a "loading message" and then finally the opening menu. At this point I am supposed to select a menu option by typing a letter and CR. However, the keyboard (and machine) is now dead. Any keys that I hit do not echo. The LED keys won't toggle. CNTRL BREAK doesn't help. The only recourse is the reset button. Of course this all works on an IBM XT or AT. The really strange thing is that it dies so early. This is before (I assume) it goes out to do any special hardware initialization or anything, it's just waiting for a stupid key. I have similar IBM programs that run on the Token-Ring network that run with no problems. Any suggestions out there??? Is IBM just checking some ID to discover if this is a true blue and then deciding to screw me? I have heard of such rumors on the Net. Is there some patch to fool IBM into thinking I am a real XT? For you AT&Ters out there is there some dept I can call for such compatibility questions, or one that wants to know about my problems? I would appreciate if any responses were mailed to me directly as I don't always have time to wade through all the stuff on the Net. If I here anything exciting I'll post a summary, but I don't mind if you want to respond directly and post. -- Tom Rosenfeld @ AT&T Information Systems Labs, Middletown, NJ (201) 957-5867 UUCP: {harpo,ihnp4,burl,akgua}!mtgzz!rosen Disclaimer: I don't claim anything.
