It was pointed out to me, by Tom, ihnp4!hoqax!twb, that I misled him concerning the Korn shell on the PC 6300 PLUS - >Bill Kennedy: >About a month ago you posted an article to att.sys.pc6300 which misled >me (and probably others) into thinking that ksh from Aspen Tech. was >for the PC6300 PLUS. > >Now that the software has finally arrived the manual says that it is for >"UNIX Systems - Intel" >It certainly isn't for the PC6300 PLUS. > >I guess I shouldn't believe everything I read on the net. >Tom. > >"... it's available for the PLUS from ASPEN Technologies." Tom is, strictly speaking, accurate. The Aspen implementation is for Microport System V/AT which is binary compatible with the PC 6300 PLUS. In order to install it on the PLUS you must change step 3 of the installation procedure from: mount /dev/dsk/fd048 /mnt -r to read: mount /dev/dsk/f0d9dt /mnt -r and likewise step 7 from: umount /dev/dsk/fd048 to read: umount /dev/dsk/f0d9dt Apologies to anyone who was misled. Just because it seemed obvious to me, it apparently wasn't obvious. I would add that there are some other things involved, environment changes, etc. to install it so I would restrict my endorsement to those who folks who don't mind doing them. I stand by my opinion that it's a *GREAT* tool, it makes life much more pleasant. -- Bill Kennedy {cbosgd | ihnp4!petro | sun!texsun!rrm}!ssbn!bill
