[net.movies] "Beyond The Limit" Review

alle@ihuxb.UUCP (10/03/83)

I saw "Beyond The Limit" at Stratford Square Theatres in Bloomingdale, Il
this past weekend.

The movie stars Michael Caine and Richard Gere. The movie takes place
in contemporary Buenos Aires. Caine is an honorary British Consulate
while Gere is a physician. Gere's father is a political prisoner in
Paraguay (his father is British, his mother Paraguayan).

The movie has two basic story lines, that of Gere's involvement with
Caine's Indian wife (who was previously a prostitute) and Gere's
involvement with a Paraguayan rebel group that is trying to win the
freedom of political prisoners in Paraguay.

The movie is well acted and well directed. The political climate
of Argentina is captured quite well also. The Paraguayan rebels
subplot never really seems to gel, though, and I'm not sure why
it was included.

This movie is worth seeing, but try to see it without paying
full price. I give this movie *** (out of 4 stars).
