[comp.sys.att] Bringing up UNIX on a 6300+

brill@bach.Berkeley.EDU (David Brillinger) (10/26/87)

I am having trouble getting UNIX to run on my 6300PLUS after
having had a new hard disk installed. It was running, more or
less, OK before. Now MSDOS runs, but I can't get UNIX V 2.0 to
come up.
I had a Wren II half height 51mb 989 cyl 5 data heads drive
installed. A Western Digital WD10025-WX2 controller was also
installed.
I have tried various formats and partitions, but when I insert
disk 1 of the 7 disk foundation set I keep getting
   "Error reading partition table
Possibly wrong device mode, use a mode that starts from
   cylinder 0"
Is this the problem that "the 6300+ will only support disks listed
in the ROMBIOS"?
If yes, what might I do?
By the way, I tried to get a disk from the local AT&T place where
I got the computer, but the assistance I got from them was terrible.
I also thought that I was getting the Wren that was in the ROMBIO's
but.... Sigh.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
