I am not sure when the hardware changes were added for "automatic" thermal shutdown, who knows it might have been there all along? I work for an AT&T VAR and one of our customers recently had a fan (over-heating) problem. The company is a Fuel Oil Company and they get coal deliveries. Oh know you're saying! I don't know how they could do this to a machine like that, but they leave the back door open when the coal is delivered! The dust/dirt/grime/blackness is so bad that it got so clogged that the fan just gave up and died! The machine made a couple of grasping breathes and died! Unfortunately it died, rebooted, died, rebooted, died, etc... I guess when the machine cooled off, it rebooted (since the power switch was still in the ON position) This happened so many times that the hard disk crashed as a result. When you say "shutdown" I don't think I would call it that, it really isn't graceful enough. It is like shutting it off by the power switch (ugh!) Be kind to your machines... if you are in a dusty/dirty environment do some "preventive maintenance" and blow out the insides/fan/intake-filter. Your machine will last longer! Hard drives are over $1500 (unless you shell out $75+ for a Service contract per month). Motherboards are $1700+ ... I would be cheaper to buy another one [ if they sold them :-) ] -Lenny -- ============================ US MAIL: Lenny Tropiano, ICUS Computer Group IIIII CCC U U SSSS PO Box 1 I C C U U S Islip Terrace, New York 11752 I C U U SSS PHONE: (516) 968-8576 [H] (516) 582-5525 [W] I C C U U S AT&T MAIL: ...attmail!icus!lenny TELEX: 154232428 IIIII CCC UUU SSSS UUCP: ============================ ...{uunet!godfre, mtune!quincy}!\ ...{ihnp4, boulder, harvard!talcott, skeeve, ptsfa}! >icus!lenny "Usenet the final frontier" ...{cmcl2!phri, hoptoad}!dasys1!/
