Hello. I am looking for info, suggestions, advice, opinions, experiences etc. on the following problem: We are a science research institute specialising in cancer research. Part of our work involves the use of Radiation Scintillation Counters to measure isotopes in assays etc. These counters are currently hooked up via RS232 link to a pdp11/34 which handles simultaneous input from the counters and passes the data to programs which further process the information. My problem: We are in the process of establishing a network system based on ethernet thin wire, using a SUN as a server. We intend dumping the pdp11/34 and need to replace its function. I believe this can be achieved using a PC or Mac with some sort of data acquisition interface. My question: What is out there that will allow me to do this. What Cards or Boxes exist for Mac/PC. Will this configuration handle four or five machines that send data somtimes simultaneously, sometines not, albeit very slowly (a 3-5byte packet every min. or so). "WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT" Please E-mail your responses. I will summarise if there is net interest.
