The original novella of A Boy And His Dog appeared, I believe, in the
Ellison Collection "The Beast Who Shouted ``Love'' At The Heart Of The
World."

You'll notice that the "neat ending" of the movie is not the ending of
the story.  Ellison is still extremely angry at (among other things!)
the way that movie ended.
