Greetings! This request is on behalf of another... A little history first: The box in question is of standard(?) configuration: 2 floppys, 640K of memory, and a color monitor. The B: drive hasn't worked from jumpstreet but wasn't really missed(!). Just recently it started having trouble with it's A: drive, first acting flaky then crapping out all together. On power-up it would tickle the A: drive and go through ROM diags. The drive ready light would never go out and the drive wasn't recognized. Popping the top didn't reveal much... I took the ribbon cable off the drives and, for grins, put the terminating plug on the B: drive. Lo and behold, the system recognized it (as A:) and would happily boot. I then put the cable back on in it's proper config and it then recognized the A: drive as A:, though still no B: drive. Since no DIPs are visible in the main card area, and it being someone else's machine, I left things as they were figuring 1 drive is better than none. Now to the questions: If the drives are DIP-selectable, are they on the motherboard (that's buried under the chassis)? If so, could some kind soul send me the location/settings? How awkard is it to install a third-party hard disk in one of these boxes? Any experience/types of drives and controllers would be appreciated. Whew, that's it.... Please send any RTFM responses to /dev/null since the only manuals they have say "In case of problems, contact your authorized AT&T Service Center". All others should reply to the address in the header....
