I just stepped through about 18 messages with people telling me what their favorite movies were. Turnabout is fair play folks, so here is the list from a person who realistically named himself after a 1939 movie (rather then from the book of the same name (a fun book, by the way)). One further note, people like movies for various reasons. Many for the technical as- pects of a film, some for the "message" behind the film. I like films be- cause they make me feel good, whether its because they are funny, or be- cause they touched me in some way. That explaines the eclectic nature of my list. I. THE PRODUCERS The GREATEST Mel Brooks film made. Great premise, great acting, and SPRINGTIME FOR HITLER is the funniest production number I have EVER seen. Worth staying up until 2:00am to see. II. A FUNNY THING Zero Mostel, Jack Gilford, Phil Silvers, HAPPENED ON THE Buster Keaton, need I say more? WAY TO THE FORUM III. THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS George C. Scott, Jack Gilford (Joane Woodward?), in a story about a judge who thinks he is Sherlock Holms. An interest- ing comedy which states, don't laugh at the man who tilts at windmills, who knows, they might be giants. IV. CASABLANCA Play it, Sam (he NEVER says "Play it again, Sam) Louie, this looks like the start of a beau- tiful friendship. We'll always have Paris. V. BUGSY MALONE An interesting musical. Kids in a Chicago Gangster flick. A Paul Williams score that is delightful. Worth seeing. VI. ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE I cannot add anything to what has already been said about this WONDERFUL movie. VII. GONE WITH THE WIND I don't know nothin' about birthin babies, Miss Scarlet. But Rhett, if you go, what shall I do? Why DID she like Ashly better? VIII. DUCK SOUP Hail, hail Freedonia, land of the brave and free! This was Groucho's favorite movie, and for good reasons. It had the best lines, the most interesting score and no real love interest ("We're fighting for this womans honor, which is more then SHE ever did."). It also had THE mirror scene. IX. 7 BRIDES FOR 7 BROS. Do yourself a favor, read a book, or write a program when this movie comes on. Then when the music starts for the BIG dance number, put everything down and ENJOY your- self. Then after the dance scene, turn off the movie, it goes RAPIDLY downhill. But the dance scene IS worth turning it on! X. ROCKY HORROR PICT SHOW Actually this one depends on the audience, but when I used to see it at the TLA thea- ter in Philadelphia, it was GREAT. Damnit, Janet. That's all folks, let see some more REAL favorites, not the ones you want people to think you like (Citizen Kane, 12 angry men, etc, movies that ARE good, but you know kill yourself to watch over and over and over ...)
