#N:uokvax:3900003:000:2204 uokvax!jab Oct 7 23:04:00 1983 Having seen a lot of "favorite movies", I can't resist the urge to add my own suggestions. i) The African Queen --- Bogart and Hepburn. A fine film that I hadn't seen until about a month ago. (Having WGN is worth its weight in gold!) ii) Casablanca --- Bogart and Bergman. A little overrated (a cult following, no less!) but worth it just to hear Peter Lorre (sp?) beg Bogart to save his life. iii) The Wizard of OZ --- Garland and Bolger. Being an old softie (a young softie?) I can't help but like this one. iv) Horsefeathers --- the Four Marx Brothers. (Groucho is the dean of a college and Zeppo is on the football team --- need I say more?) v) Psycho --- Hitchcock's classic. The original horror film. (Apologies to "King Kong" fans) vi) The Sound of Music --- Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. See the comments on iii). vii) Westside Story --- Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno. A movie that was entertaining, yet a bit sad. I wasn't expecting quite the showpiece that I got. viii) The Bridge Over the River Kwai --- Guiness and Holden. Good stuff, and [unfortunately] something that you don't see unless you get WGN or WTBS. (The scene in "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" where Taylor falls onto the detonation device for the bomb is *STOLEN* from this movie.) ix) Lawrence of Arabia --- Peter O'Toole and Alec Guiness. A long (!) movie about a man that just couldn't have existed. (No one is that outstanding, right? RIGHT?) x) The Goodbye Girl --- Marsha Marson and Richard Dreyfuss. By far Neil Simon's best screenplay, and a good deal of fun. xi) Inherit the Wind --- Spencer Tracy and Gene Kelly (I think). Proof that Dick York (the guy that played Darrin Stevens on "Bewitched" for awhile) could actually land a *REAL* acting job. This movie isn't as good as the play, but is a lot of fun. (Then again, every Spencer Tracy role was pretty good.) I have ignored *ALL* of the movies that George Lucas has made, since I am such a Lucas fan (and you don't want to hear me go one about Star Wars, now, do you?) Jeff Bowles Lisle, IL ps. The opinions contained herein don't reflect the opinions of my employer, Western Electric. (For one thing, they don't rate movies.)
