[comp.sys.att] MSDOS environment size on 6300+

dpm@K.GP.CS.CMU.EDU (David Maynard) (04/04/88)

Can someone explain how I can increase the environment size available under
MSDOS 3.1 on the ATT 6300+? I tried the /e: switch to command.com with both
/e:64 and /e:1024 (the pre-3.2 and post-3.2 specs for 1K of environment
space), and it didn't seem to have any effect. The /e switch isn't
documented in the ATT manuals, but it isn't documented in most pre-3.2
manuals either. I am running MSDOS without UNIX (the software I use wants a
full 640K and just isn't happy with the 492K that Simul-Task will give it).

Alternatively, does ATT have MSDOS 3.2 available for the 6300+?

Thanks in advance,

David Maynard (dpm@cs.cmu.edu)

You've done everything right! I thought that worked on my 6300 when I ran v3.1.
Dos 3.2 is out and they may have released DOS V3.3 already. There's a program
called biopatch that is necessary on 6300's (and probably the plus as well)
that is needed to stop the clock from losing time on boot. The clock gets
read and written back to on every boot which causes a loss of up to 59 secs.
per boot. The fix by George Somers is on many bbs systems changes the write
back to the clock to a second non-destructive read.

As an aside -- anyone out there have a 6300 plus for sale? I'd like to upgrade
from my 6300 which is running out of steam -- even with the V30 and 8087.
I'm also interested in Simultask.
