[net.movies] The Raven

...was made about 1961. The silliness of the film and the actors'
obvious delight in playing their stock roles with tongues in respective
cheeks makes it all pretty enjoyable to watch.
Perhaps the strangest thing to see in the film is Peter Lorre's son -- he
is played by a very young Jack Nicholson -- with a full head of hair, yet!
Nicholson watchers are also advised to watch the Monkees' movie "Head",
if it ever gets back your way. It's SOOOO 60s you can't believe it. It
was co-scripted by Nicholson and director Bob Rafelson, and Nicholson
appears on-screen for an instant as a grip, between Davy Jones' rinky-tink
number and the Frank Zappa cameo.
   I'm not kidding. Really.
For another cheap thrill, check out the mid-50s "Murders in the Rue Morgue"
in 3-D. The villian is an abysmally bad Karl Malden, and in the first 20
minutes there's a brief appearance by a very young Merv Griffin -- also with
a full head of hair.
Merv didn't make it into "Head", I'm sorry to say...
