I am getting ready to buy a LaserJet II for my ATT 3B1 system and want
to know if I will need any kind of driver or such to use
nroff/troff/tab/col. Is there somekind of software that I need to do

You don't need anything at all to use NROFF with the Series II. If you want to do fancy looking troff stuff, however, you'll first first have to get troff (!) -- the 3B1 doesn't come with it. (Nor, of course, does it come with any troff laser printer drivers.)
