No, you didn't exactly bore us Loren; confuse would be a better word than bore. Of course we all know that liquid flows UP through the straw because of pressure difference. But it flows DOWN (after removing your mouth) by gravity just like Zawadzki said. There is no pressure difference after removing your mouth unless the cup is absolutely airtight. And they don't suck harder in Denver! (literally; perhaps figuratively though, but that's a value judgment.) It's a pressure DIFFERENCE that requires sucking effort, not absolute pressure in the straw. /Don Lynn
