It was preview time at a local theater last night: The Right Stuff is a GREAT 2 hour movie. Unfortunately, it's over 3 hours long. On the plus side, there are great flying sequences, skillful use of newsreel footage blended with with shots of the actors, subtle character development, interesting history, etc. A lot of "arty" stuff done well. Where it isn't being "arty", it is technically accurate. Lots of humor, such as Lyndon Johnson having a temper tantrum. You walk out feeling good. On the minus side, some of the sequences are far too long, as if the director wanted to make a point, then emphasize it for the brain damaged. The movie might start out confusing for those who haven't read the book. I strongly recommend the film, but suggest that you go when you're in a patient mood. Don't bring the kids unless they are patient, too. I'm voting for Chuck Yeager in '84;
