[net.movies] words to "Springtime for Hitler" anyone?

ken@ihuxq.UUCP (ken perlow) (10/10/83)

Everyone who has seen Mel Brooks' "The Producers" remembers
"Springtime for Hitler." But no one I know remembers farther than the
1st two lines:

It's springtime for Hitler and Germany;
It's winter for Poland and France.

Can anyone take it from there?
(I don't remember it either.)

Chorus: Germany was havingh trouble
        what a sad, sad story.
Needed a new leader to restore
        its former glory.
        Where oh where was he?
        Where could that man be?
        We looked around,
        and then we found,
the man for you and me
        And now its..

German: Springtime for Hitler and Germany.
        Deutschland is happy and gay.
We're marching to a faster pace.
Look out, here comes the master race.

        Springtime for Hitler and Germany.
        Winter for Poland and France.
        Springtime for Hitler and Germany.
Come on Germans, go into your dance.

They dance a typical Broadway chorus dance interupted by

1stman: I was born in Doosledorf and that is why the call me Rolf.

They dance some more until we hear:
Brooks: Don't be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the Nazi party.

More dancing with a goose-stepping chorus line and the song continues.
Unfortunatly, I don't remember how the rest of the song goes. Before I get
any flames for posting this song as a salute to Nazi Germany, I should
mention that my father, who went through WW II, and would not allow Hogan's
Heros to be watched in our house as "the Germans were not cute little
people who were easily taken advantage of" thinks THE PRODUCERS is one of
the funniest movies he has EVER seen, and always laughs at this song.
After all, until he married Anne Bancroft, Mel Brooks was Jewish.

P.S. How did I do, Laureen?
If you have THIS movie, bring it with you to the conference!!!!!

The words to "Springtime for Hitler" were right as far as they went. The
complete lyrics:

Germany was having trouble, what a sad sad story
Needed a new leader to restore its former glory
Where oh where was he
Where could that man be
We looked around, and then we found,
A man for you and me, and now it's

Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Deutschland is happy and gay
We're marching to a faster pace
Look out, here comes the master race

Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Winter for Poland and France
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Come on Germans, go into your dance

(spoken - I was borm in Dusseldorf, and that is why they call me Rolf)
(spoken - Don't be stupid, be a smarty. Come and join the Nazi Party)

Springtime for Hitler and Germany (rifle shots)
Goosestep's the new step today (machine gun fire)
Bombs falling from the skies again (bomb falling)
Deutschland is on the rise again

Springtime for Hitler and Germany
U-boats are sailing once more
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Means that
Soon we'll be going
We've got to be going
You know we'll be going your way
