Friday, I saw the opening of "The Right Stuff". I went to the movie expecting it to be terrific, and was not in the least disappointed. It starts back in the mid 40`s with the fighter pilots who went after and conquered the sound barrier, focusing on the first man to do it, Chuck Yeager. We move on in time to the selection, training and flights of the Mercury astronauts (if you haven`t seen the movie, I dare you to name all 7). The acting was superb! The storyline was very well done. Special effects weren`t bad either. It was a 3 hour movie, but the movie didn`t drag, so I didn`t notice it a bit. The movie really made me appreciate what those first astronauts went through, and brought back a time when we really had some honest-to-goodness heros. It was serious, and sometimes very amusing, and patriotic and GREAT! If you like stuff about space or flying, it`s a must! If you want to see a great movie, it`s a must! Some adult scenes and some language may make this a movie you wouldn`t take a pre-teen to, but that`s up to your discretion. Thus the PG rating. It also isn`t going to hurt John Glenn`s popularity 1 bit as he makes his run for the Democratic Presidential nomination. A definite Academy Award nominee for best picture. I give it ****.
